The Related Services Department is responsible to provide direction and leadership to psychological services, speech-language therapy services, occupational/physical therapy services, audiology services, and Crisis Response Team departments by striving to improve the delivery and quality of support provided to students and schools.

CCSD Related Services Careers

Occupational Therapy & Physical Therapy

School-based physical therapists (PT) in CCSD work with educational staff and parents to support students with disabilities, particularly those with movement disorders, to access the school environment and curricula. The main focus is on functional areas including: proper seating and positioning, independent mobility around the classroom and school site, participation in play and leisure activities, and preparation for adult life. School-based occupational therapists (OT) in CCSD assess fine motor, visual motor, sensory-motor, and self-care skills. Deficiencies in these areas are addressed through a variety of intervention strategies which may include direct therapy with the child, consultation with the teacher, modification of the environment, provision of adaptive equipment, and staff training.

  • Pediatric experience preferred

Audiology

Audiologists perform individual diagnostic audiological evaluations on students using a variety of test measures including behavioral assessments, play audiometry, immittance measurements and otoacoustic emissions.

Services include:

  • Participating in Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) meetings, IEP meetings and Section 504 meetings
  • Recommending ear level equipment based on educational needs
  • Selecting and fitting appropriate Hearing Assistive Technology (HAT), both sound field and ear-level equipment
  • Educating teachers, school staff, parents, related services staff and medical professionals on the educational impact of hearing loss

Psychological Services

School Psychologists deliver school-based psychological services intended to improve students’ academic performance and behavior, enhance their overall educational success, and promote mental health. They support individual students as well as the overall school community.

  • Master’s in School Psychology.
  • Provide consultation services and promote collaborative problem-solving.
  • Work directly with students, teachers, and parents.
  • Conduct a variety of assessments and evaluations.
  • Required team members for determining student eligibility for special education.
  • Offer additional assistance (Section 504, crisis intervention, etc.).

Speech-Language Pathology

Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) provide diagnostic, direct and consultative services to students who exhibit difficulties in the areas of language, speech, hearing, voice and fluency. Services are designed to help students meet their education goals. SLPs work closely with parents, school personnel and community-based professionals to address the communication needs of students.
